REASONS FOR PROFESSIONALS TO STAY OR LEAVE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ORGANIZATIONS

ABSTRACT Purpose: This study describes the reasons for professionals to stay or leave information technology (IT) organizations in Santa Catarina. Originality/value: Technology have experienced challenges retaining professionals. Therefore, this contributes literature on subject by presenting professionals’ perceptions about their voluntarily staying leaving these organizations. Design/methodology/approach: Four hundred and forty workers from private companies freely answered two open questions an online questionnaire (survey): “What are that maintain you working at company?” “For what would company future?”. The responses, collected second half of 2016, were inductively coded subsequently aggregated into categories. Findings: results indicate remain researched primarily due occupational (job satisfaction, organizational commitment, proper conditions perception professional growth), (adequate management practices) environmental (perception there no better work alternatives). surveyed they currently work, (lack job satisfaction opportunities growth, lack outlook valorization conditions), as well (inadequate practices), (better alternatives) individual (career planning). Based analysis results, agenda future research investigated topic is presented.
